About the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Sarajevo
The Faculty of Islamic Studies in Sarajevo is the oldest and most prestigious institution of higher Islamic education in Europe.
It draws inspiration from the centuries-long tradition of Islamic education in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which began with the erection of the first mosque, Tekke, and the establishment of the first primary schools (muallim-han) in the second half of the fifteenth century.
The Faculty of Islamic Studies in Sarajevo was established based on the decision of the Supreme Parliament and the Supreme Islamic Council of the Islamic Community in Yugoslavia in 1977.
